The region abounds in rhododendrons, magnolias, primulas, orchids and ferns of numerous varities. About six hundred different species of birds inhabit the emerald green forests on the slopes of the mountains. The following is a brief description of some of the most popular and most rewarding treks in the region.
 
Sandakphu is the world famous trekking paradise from where you can enjoy the clear views of Himalayan Giants Like Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lothse, Nuptse, Makalu, Janu, Pandim.
 
Major trekking routes are :
 
Darjeeling - Maneybhanjyang-Tonglu-Sandakphu and return by the same route-118 km (4 days).
 
Darjeeling - Maneybhanjyang-Tonglu-Sandakphu-Phalut and return-160 km. (6 days).
 
Darjeeling - Tonglu or Gairibas-Sandakphu-Srikhola via Gurdum to Rimbick.
 
Darjeeling - Tiger Hill and back 26 kms one day trek.
 
Darjeeling - Maneybhanjyang-Gairibas-Sandakphu-Phalut-Rammam-Rimbick 130 km(6 days) From Phalut to Rammam there are two routes i) via Sabarkam ii) via Gorkhey-Samandin.
